Sermon

If anybody has a half hour to spare and want to hear some of my ramblings about worship, my sermon from about a month ago is finally up on my church's website.  The file is large (about 40m), so it will take a while to download...

I kind of left things hanging with my last post...

Things are fine with our condo.  The developer took full responsibility for making the necessary changes to the building and bringing it up to code.  As for the noise complaints...the lady that lives below us approached us and told us that apparently...we walk too loudly.  The piano, the guitar, the TV, the things we can control...nope, she can't hear them.  However, when we walk around in our home the thumping drives her crazy.  What do you say to that???  Um...sorry?  Bummer that you live on the 2nd floor and we live on the 3rd?  We'll start rolling from room to room?  We were as nice as we could be to her, and we've stopped wearing shoes around the house, but seriously, what are you supposed to do?

In other news...I preached at church a few weeks ago and I think it went well.  It's a lot of work to preach, but it was fun and I enjoyed it.  Glad I don't have to do it every week.  I'm working on getting my church's preaching podcast blog up, and I'll post the link for anyone who's interested.

Chelle and I got the chance to go camping for a couple days last week, and it was really nice.  She goes back to school this week, so it was basically our last chance to get away before the summer is gone...

What's going on??

Apparently the people who sold us our condo are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

On Friday we came home to find a scary red sign from the fire department informing us in big bold letters that that our condo building had been declared UNSAFE to occupy.  We also had a notice on the door to our unit telling us that we, along with all the other homeowners as well as the developer of our condo complex, were being served notice of code violation.  After speaking with the fire marshall yesterday to find out what is going on, it seems that apparently the developers of our condo began selling units BEFORE completing final inspections and receiving occupancy permits.  What the heck????  How can you overlook something like that?  So when the fire department came by to do an inspection the other day, they discovered that not only were there several things that did not meet code, they were surprised to find people living in the building.  What does all this mean?  Well, as legal property owners, technically we could be held responsible for completing the work needed to bring the building up to code.  HOWEVER, from what we've been told by both the fire marshall and our condo developer, the developer is taking responsibility for doing the necessary work.  Yet they have a timeframe that they have to have everything completed in, so it's in our best interests as homeowners to ensure that they actually DO the work on time, otherwise...well, I'm not sure what would happen, but I'm pretty sure it could come to the fire department evacuating the building.

In addition to all that, today Michelle and I received a letter from the president of the condo association informing us that they had received several complaints about noise coming from our home.  The only thing I can think of that it might be my guitar playing every once in a while late at night when I can't sleep, but I always try to keep it quiet.  So I wrote the guy a very polite letter back asking him if he could elaborate on the nature of the complaints.  The last thing Michelle and I want is to get off on the wrong foot with our neighbors; we really see living here as our mission field, and we have already met several people who live in the building who we feel we could get to know and build relationships with.  So needless to say a letter like that was a bit discouraging.

Did I mention I'm preaching this week at church?  I wonder if Satan is just trying to distract me with all this stuff...
